Tank-or-Treat Collab

Draw your character. Answer the door. Trick or treat.

What this is

We're building a Halloween trick-or-treat town out of Newgrounds artists' original characters. Players wander the streets, knock on doors, and find out what happens when each artist's character answers.

Every door in town belongs to one artist. That's your spot, and what the player sees when they knock is entirely up to you.

The main thing: two drawings

Everyone draws the same two frames of their original character in a Halloween costume. This is what to start on if your application is approved.

Before Example closed door: a plain green door with a round handle.

Closed door

What the player knocks on. You don't draw this one, though you can decorate it later if you want to.

Frame 1 Example neutral frame: a character in a costume peering around a door.

Neutral

Your character answering the door, before anything happens. Calm and standing still. This is the pose players see first.

Frame 2 Example treat frame: the same character holding out a bowl of candy.

Trick or treat

The payoff frame. Pick one of these, not both:

  • Treat: your character handing out candy.
  • Trick: your character doing something silly or spooky.

Every door is a plain one as standard. If you'd like to decorate yours, you'll get the chance to; if you'd rather leave it as it is, that's fine too. The two frames above are the required part.

Sizes, ratios and file specs are on your profile page once you've applied, so you can get them when you need them rather than now.

Plus a candy icon

You'll also make a small custom candy icon. It's the treat players collect at your door, and picking it up unlocks a Newgrounds medal. Everyone makes one, including the folks who go the trick route.

Houses and apartments

House selection isn't open yet. When it is, you'll come back here, pick your house, and get to decorate it. All you decide when you apply is whether you want one at all.

Houses come already drawn. Decorating one means adding your own art on top of what's there, which is optional and still a fair bit of work. Not everyone wants that, so there are apartment buildings in town too: a hallway of doors, one per artist, and no house front to dress up. You get the same knock and the same two frames, and that's the whole job. You can still decorate your door if you feel like it.

If you don't want to decorate a house, untick that box on the application form and we'll assign you an apartment instead. You can change your mind on your profile while you're waiting on a decision, but once you're approved it's settled: that's when we start putting people in houses, and pulling out afterwards leaves a hole in the town. Apartments are also where you'll land if you miss out on the house selection phase. We'll lean on them to accommodate more artists if we need to, but they'll have a limited number of slots as well.

The deadline

Everything is due by , shown in your own timezone. We're aiming to launch the game on 19 October 2026, and the gap between those two dates is us making sure the whole town works before anyone plays it.

You'll submit through your profile page on this site. We're building uploaders that package your art up for the game, so there's nothing to send anywhere and no file naming to get right. They aren't ready yet. Once they are, everything you need will be on your profile.

Applications are closed right now

We've got everyone we can fit for the moment. Watch the forum thread. If we expand the town, we'll open applications back up.
